Hello Everyone!
My name is Catalina Castro and I am truly excited you’re on my website! I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and the journey that brought me to establishing Catalina Esthetics.
About me:
In September of 2020, I moved to the Beaufort/Lowcountry area with my husband, an active-duty Marine, after we received orders to be stationed at the local marine base. My husband and I are high school sweethearts and we have been together for 10 years. We live with our dog and four cats (crazy cat lady and proud). Since moving here, we have enjoyed the beautiful and peaceful feel of the Lowcountry.
Before Beaufort, we were stationed in Jacksonville, NC where I worked retail for almost four years. During this time, I developed a newfound respect for those that work at the mall especially during the holidays. When I wasn’t working at the mall you could find me at the beach. I can move anywhere in the world and be happy as long as I am close to the ocean. I am truly happy by the water because I can feel myself recharging and unwinding from the stress of daily life. My dog, Ruby, is a beach bum just like me. She loves running into the waves, swimming, and soaking in the sun. She is a yellow lab, and she is the absolute love of my life. She is always by my side. Another hobby that we enjoy doing together is relaxing on the couch and watching reality television (90 Day Fiancé, anyone?)
How I became an Esthetician:
My interest in skin care and esthetics started with make-up. I started experimenting with make-up in middle school. Blending vibrant colors and creating bold looks became a fun way to express myself. Without my love of cosmetics, I doubt I would have discovered my love for all things skincare.
Fast forward to 2020 when the pandemic started. I know I am not alone when I say the pandemic changed my life. When I got laid off from my retail job, I had so much free time on my hands. To keep myself active and inspired, I created a YouTube channel. I uploaded make-up tutorials, hauls, and “get ready with me videos.” I did that once a week for the majority of 2020. It felt fulfilling to create make-up and hair looks and then edit videos to my liking. Another perk was getting to interact with people online that shared a common interest. Around this time, I grew increasingly interested in skincare and the ingredients used to create skincare products. As wonderful as make-up was to me, I had a desire to understand my skin better without feeling the need to cover it up all the time.
After moving to South Carolina, I took time to reflect on what I wanted to do career-wise. One day, while watching a fellow YouTube creator. It hit me. I said to myself, “I can do something I actually LOVE as a career.” My love for skincare immediately came to mind. In all honesty, I questioned whether I would be successful in a field that was completely new to me. However, that day I set the doubts aside and made a phone call to a local esthetics school. I scheduled a tour, went on the tour, and moved forward with enrollment all in the same day.
Why I became an Esthetician:
I feel my best after I do my skincare routine. This process has contributed to glowing and healthy skin for me. I like feeling and looking my best and I want to support individuals in achieving that same feeling. My goal is to provide education and discuss the importance of caring for our skin, our largest organ.
Another reason I wanted to become an esthetician and start my own business was to create my own prices and services. I never received a facial until I went to school for esthetics. The main reason for that was the overpriced nature of these services. My mission became to provide affordable, quality skincare services to individuals that may have been discouraged to give it a try because of pricing. Skincare is healthcare!
Sincerely your favorite Esti,
Catalina Castro
